Multiple Free Backlinks - The Hidden Potential Of Tumblr Pages And How To Utilize Followers

What Is Tumblr?

Tumblr is a blogging site that is a mix between your standard blog, and Twitter. What makes it like Twitter? Well for one thing, you can follow other blogs. The other part, the best part, is the ability to reblog other blogs. There's even one Tumblr account called "We Are Hubpages" this is fairly new, but they are there dedicated to building free backlinks just for you. We'll talk more about that later.

Another great thing is how you can add Google AdSense into your Tumblr, so if you're getting hits, you can make some money. Now it's not only free backlinks, but possibly a profitable site!

Between the ability to build backlinks, have other people spread your backlinks, and make some cash off of AdSense, it seems to me like Tumblr is the place to be, and I want to spread the word so that others can benefit from this free blog site as much as I do.

Using Tumblr For SEO

Many people know that blogs are essential to SEO.  You can build up PageRank quickly and thus give you an excellent place to place backlinks.

There's many blog sites like Blogger, WordPress, and Tumblr.  Personally, I use WordPress when I make a website, but a blog for the sake of blogging? I highly suggest Tumblr.

Again, this is because of the reblog feature, which is paramount in getting multiple backlinks, along with exposure and traffic.

Free Backlinks - Tumblr's Reblog Feature

As I mentioned before, there's a blog called We Are Hubpages that builds free back links for anyone who needs them. All you need to do is have a Tumblr to submit. On that Tumblr, they have a Submit button where you follow the directions provided, and they will do the rest. You can submit as many as you want, though many in a row would be rude and unnatural, so it probably wouldn't benefit you. It's ideal to submit one or two a day. The blog then posts one or two a day to their page. Instant backlink! Unfortunately, for now, the PR is 0 meaning the backlinks hold basically no weight. Waste of time, right? Not really, and here's why: the reblog function. If everyone who submits also follows, and then reblogs, suddenly it's all getting spread across Tumblr, onto multiple pages with multiple PR's. The more people follow and reblog, the more these links get spread around. It's all a community in it to help each other out. Plus, on your OWN Tumblr, you can post your own links and your own followers can then reblog, and the whole process is done again.

[EDIT] If the We Are Hubpages account disappears or stops being moderated, don't panic! That shouldn't stop you from making your own Tumblr, following people, and posting your own content. Don't forget to reblog others so they'll reblog you. It's a community effort!

All Of Our Hubs Can Benefit

If we all get on there and follow each other and reblog each other, we could all benefit in huge ways.  This isn't a link exchange program.  This is simply us posting our own links on Tumblr and other people spreading the word.  Viral marketing for your Hubpages!

Thanks for this article. I have had a Tumblr for a while but it has been buried in dust lately. I always went back and forth with Tumblr and Blogger, but Tumblr always felt easier to maintain. Now I might have to start using it to share more of my Hubs in the future. Thanks for the heads up!

Tumblr has worked wonders for me. It has sooo much viral power just from the reblogging feature. I remember posting a video or note on there that got up 133 notes in just a matter of a week. I definitely use it frequently. The Adsense, Chitika, or Amazon ads are a plus, indeed. good post!

Thanks for this useful information. I have heard of Tumblr - in name only - and wasn't sure what it was. This has been very helpful.

@LennyP I followed you and reblogged your Betty Page post! It was very interesting I loved it. To add Adsense you have to work it into the script of your theme. Maybe I should write a Hub about it =P

I just signed up for tumbler, http://lennypastore.tumblr.com, but I did not see how you add your adsense. How does one go about doing that?

ryokowaren, I followed you on Tumblr!

tritrain, You should give it a shot. If you don't like it and/or it doesn't do anything to help you, just stop using it! It's not going to cost you anything (unless you bought a dotcom for it).

Holly M, it's nice to hear you're having as much success as I am with Tumblr. Hopefully more people pick up a Tumblr and start building their community.

I, too, have been successful in operating my blog on Tumblr, and in fact find that my followers have increased significantly due to the reblog feature. More recently, Tumblr also incorporated the feature that allows for reblogs to maintain the original source. This way, the original owner of the post is able to keep the credit for his/her work. Great article, Garrett!

I had a lot of problems with Onlywire, but PingFM is pretty good.

I wasn't suggesting that someone use Tumblr and only Tumblr. What I am suggesting, is that it should be a part of your routine, and it has in fact provided backlinks and traffic (click through from Tumblr users) to my hubs, which is all a plus.

There are other means to do this, such as using Amplify, PingFM and/or OnlyWire. Tumblr is a service/platform that is syndicated to by these other means, all on auto pilot.

But good stuff here.

There is one issue, however, and it is that C-Block diversity is essential to your backlinks carrying weight. If you have Tumblr or any one Web 2.0 property as a source of backlinks - then you have no diversification of C-Class or C-Block IPs.

The real key is finding a way to syndicate in a diverse, organic fashion, and never, never rely on just one source of links.

Have you heard of Vox? They were one of the pioneers of free blogging platforms - actually they were really easy to use, etc.

They're shutting down September 30 of this year...in less than a week. Food for thought.

I think it holds tons of potential, and with a community like hubpages, if we all got on there and followed each other and then reblogged each other, we could all benefit in a huge way!
