Tech House Music History

Tech House Music has been around ever since the latter years of 1990s, but it only started gaining popularity around the year 2000. This genre of music has succeeded in mainstream from that year up through the present day. Tech House music is a fusion of the distinct four-on-the-floor rhythm pattern of House music and the understated musical style of Minimal Techno. The most popular advocate of this fusion is Richard West, a British DJ also known as "Mr. C", who is also responsible for coining the term "Tech House".

Best 10 Tech-House Songs Mix

Less Is More

What caught the attention of Tech House fans is the subtle musical style of this sub-genre of House music. While Progressive House aimed to grow more complex with the use of advanced methods of mixing different musical elements, Tech House took subtlety and simplicity several notches higher. This type of music is less energetic than most House sub-genres, but it is this laid-back characteristic that made it as enjoyable to listen to with headphones as it is to move with on the dance floor. Tech house still uses the basic foundation of the 4/4 pattern, which is the basic House musical foundation. However, the distinct jazz-like elements and the blasting drum beats of House is removed. Instead, the shorter kick drum beats, high-hats, and louder snares, which are traits of Techno music, are used along with synthetic and distorted sounds. This blend is highly consistent in most Tech House Music tracks.

Sub-Genres Of Tech House

With the popularity of Tech House amongst musical artists and producers, several attempts of modifying it and mixing it with other genres and musical elements have surfaced. These attempts paved a way for Tech House to give birth to three sub-genres: Electrotech, Deeptech, and Pumptech.

Electrotech

Electrotech is considered one of the many sub-genres that influenced the creation of Electro House music. This sub-genre is influenced by the Electroclash movement, which is a fusion of New Wave and Electronic Dance Music or EDM. Electrotech uses the fat bass lines of Electroclash while maintaining the simplicity of Tech House.

Deeptech

Deeptech is still quite controversial because there is still to be a track that typifies this type of music, which is said to be a fusion between Dark House and Progressive House music. If there is a song that falls under this sub-genre of Tech House, it is possible that it has not gained enough popularity to make it to go mainstream.

Pumptech

Pumptech, or more popularly known as Pumping House, is probably the most successful sub-genre of Tech House. This type of music is characterized by heavier reverberations and more distinct side chain techniques. Musical artists from Southern Europe created a song that is the perfect example of this sub-genre and it became such a hit that it immediately rose up the success ladder in 2003. Its fame inspired other producers, mainly from Europe, to incorporate this type of music into their own musical style. Unfortunately, as quickly as this sub-genre of Tech House acquired its success, it lost its popularity after two years.

Listened to your YouTube recording for Techno. I must admit that it has great rhythm and harmonic qualities not found in many hip hop song themes. Thanks for sharing this incredible post. Nicely articulated and great content. This is really worth reading.
